MTG Deck Guide
Kaalia of the Vast
How this deck wins
Attack with Kaalia to cheat huge Angels, Demons, and Dragons into play for free, then overwhelm the table with flying pressure and brutal combat damage.
Game plan
Early, ramp and protect Kaalia. Mid game, attack and drop threats for free. Late game, repeated combat and inevitability close the game.
Avoid
Casting Kaalia without protection or keeping slow hands with no ramp.
Juri, Master of the Revue
How this deck wins
Grow Juri by sacrificing creatures and treasures, then cash him in to dome players or clear blockers with a massive death trigger. Aristocrats damage stacks fast; one fling ends games.
Game plan
Early, deploy cheap fodder and ramp. Mid game, loop sacrifices to scale Juri while pinging the table. Late game, sacrifice Juri at peak power to finish players or swing the board your way.
Avoid
Overcommitting without a sac outlet, or letting Juri sit unprotected when removal is up. Don’t fire the finisher before Juri is big enough to matter.
Tergrid, God of Fright
How this deck wins
Force discards and sacrifices until opponents run out of resources, then steal their permanents and win with overwhelming board advantage they paid for themselves.
Game plan
Early, ramp and deploy discard effects to tax hands. Mid game, layer edicts and symmetrical pain to trigger Tergrid repeatedly. Late game, opponents are empty-handed, you control their best cards, and the game collapses fast.
Avoid
Casting Tergrid without pressure already applied, or relying on fair play. If opponents still have full hands, you’re doing it wrong.
Gargos, Vicious Watcher
How this deck wins
Land Gargos, cast cheap pump and protection spells, wipe opposing boards through forced fights, then end the game with massive Hydras and overrun effects.
Game plan
Early, ramp hard. Mid game, resolve Gargos and start targeting your own creatures to trigger free removal. Late game, flood the board with undercosted Hydras and finish with a single combat step.
Avoid
Keeping slow hands without ramp, or firing protection spells before Gargos is online. If Gargos sticks, the table shouldn’t.
Edgar, Charmed Groom
How this deck wins
Go wide with Vampires, stack anthem effects, and drain the table through lifegain and death triggers. Edgar keeps value flowing even after removal.
Game plan
Early, curve out Vampires and fix mana. Mid game, amplify the board with lords and aristocrat payoffs. Late game, grind with tokens, recur threats, and let drain effects close it out.
Avoid
Overextending into sweepers or ignoring lifegain synergies. If you’re just attacking without draining, you’re leaving damage on the table.
Magda, Brazen Outlaw
How this deck wins
Tap Dwarves to print Treasures, then convert five at a time into game-ending Dragons or brutal artifacts straight onto the battlefield.
Game plan
Early, flood the board with cheap Dwarves and tap enablers. Mid game, snowball Treasures and control the table with artifact synergies. Late game, tutor bombs at instant speed and bury opponents in value.
Avoid
Playing Magda without a way to tap Dwarves, or cracking Treasures for mana instead of tutoring. Five Treasures should always mean something dies.
Black Waltz No. 3
How this deck wins
Chain noncreature spells to repeatedly burn the table. Damage multipliers and pingers turn every cantrip and removal spell into inevitability.
Game plan
Early, ramp and set up spell payoffs. Mid game, land Black Waltz and start firing spells to drain everyone evenly. Late game, stack damage amplifiers and storm-style turns to end the table without attacking.
Avoid
Holding spells too long or playing fair. If you’re passing with cards in hand, you’re losing damage. Every spell should hurt.
Zada, Hedron Grinder
How this deck wins
Go wide, then cast a single targeted spell on Zada to draw half your deck, generate absurd mana, and swing for lethal in one turn.
Game plan
Early, flood the board with cheap creatures and ritual effects. Mid game, resolve Zada with protection and reload your hand. Late game, chain cantrips and pump spells into an explosive, table-ending combat.
Avoid
Casting Zada without a board, or firing your big turn without mana backup. One mistimed spell and the engine stalls.
Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale
How this deck wins
Suit up Knights for free, attack relentlessly, draw cards on every swing, and overwhelm the table with lethal combat damage backed by premium equipment.
Game plan
Early, deploy Knights and cheap equipment. Mid game, land Syr Gwyn and turn every attack into card advantage. Late game, stack power boosts and removal-on-a-stick equipment to close fast.
Avoid
Playing Syr Gwyn without creatures to equip, or durdling without attacking. If you’re not turning sideways, you’re not drawing cards.
Thalisse, Reverent Medium
How this deck wins
Generate tokens every turn, then double them with Thalisse to overwhelm the board while draining opponents through aristocrat effects.
Game plan
Early, produce cheap tokens and set up drain engines. Mid game, land Thalisse and snowball Spirits at each end step. Late game, one mass token spell or sacrifice outlet ends the table fast.
Avoid
Making tokens without payoffs or tapping out before a big turn. If you’re not creating tokens every turn cycle, you’re wasting Thalisse.
Jorn, God of Winter
How this deck wins
Abuse snow permanents to generate absurd mana, then convert it into massive draw spells or game-ending X-spells while locking the board down with snow-based control.
Game plan
Early, fix mana and deploy snow ramp. Mid game, attack with Jorn to untap lands and snow rocks for explosive turns. Late game, recycle threats with Kaldring and finish with huge spells or overwhelming value.
Avoid
Attacking with Jorn into bad blocks or playing non-snow ramp over snow options. If Jorn isn’t untapping multiple permanents, you’re leaving mana on the table.
